Owl Turn Green!

25 May

One of our greatest challenges has been teaching Charlie the concept of an appropriate wake up time.  He’s 2. Why doesn’t he have this down already? ;)

Charlie goes to bed at 7pm and generally wakes up around 6:30am. While we wish he slept a little later, we are ok with this wake up time.  Sometimes, however, he wakes up at 6am.  Rarely, the dreaded 5:30am wakeup call rears its ugly head, but when it does we end up starting our day earlier than plan.  Or should I say we used to start our day earlier than planned!  We finally discovered a way to keep him patiently in his crib until at least 6:30 in the morning.

About 6 weeks ago we discovered the OK To Wake! Owl With Night-Light & Music, Nap Timer.  This clock doesn’t function as an aid to teach children how to tell time.   It is a clock, surrounded by an Owl stuffed animal.  We set the alarm on the clock to 6:30am.  Now, every morning at the set time, the Owl lights up indicating it is okay to ask for Charlie to ask for mommy and daddy.

This amazing invention took no training.  I simply showed him what the owl looked like when it turned green.  Before he went to bed I asked him if he remembered what the owl looked like when it turned green.  He said yes. I then told him that it will stay white until it is time to wake up.  When the owl turns green you can call for mommy and daddy.  I asked him if he understood and he said yes.  The next morning he did just that.  He woke up at 6am, but didn’t call for us. Instead he sang songs in his crib until the Owl turned green.  Such a genius device!

Here it is in action.  I wish I caught a little more of the footage before the clock turned green. He was singing Happy Birthday to all of his stuffed animals before the light went on.

Generally, he doesn’t wait as patiently as he does in this video, but you get the idea…

Great Things!

23 May

1.  Greatest hubby ever!  Vacuuming, while carrying Henry and drinking coffee…

Nothing could be more sexy

2.  The brothers are falling in love…

Cuddle time! Watching Barney, of course…

3.  Henry rolled over for the first time unassisted this morning!

4.  As of this morning, my stomach is starting to get some definition back.  I’ve still got a long way to go, but progress has been made!

5. Last, but certainly not least, Henry gave us a 5 1/2 hour stretch last night.  Hallelujah!

Trust Your Gut

17 May

Henry is a fussy baby.  The thing is, I can tell he is actually a pretty chill little man deep down.  For the last 2 months my gut has been telling me that his “colic” is fixable. I put colic in quotes because his fussy/colic symptoms are nothing like what we experienced with his brother.  Charlie would basically cry 24 hours a day and almost nothing would sooth him.  Henry, on the other hand, seems to be fussy in Continue reading

Newborn Photos

10 May

This photo shoot did not go as well as the maternity shoot.  We did it on Charlie’s 2nd bday, in the afternoon, the boys were both cranky and it was my first time alone with both kids. Needless to say, I was a little high strung.  We did get a few great shots, though.

This is pretty much the state of both boys during the shoot… Continue reading

We took maternity photos back in January.  I haven’t had a chance to post about it because, well, I’ve been a little busy. ;)  A huge, special thanks to Lauren West for taking so many great photos (over 250 to choose from).

Here are some of my favorites…

Pumped to be a Bridesmaid

7 May

I was in a wedding this weekend. While I was super excited to celebrate such a festive occasion and to represent the bride, I also was bummed to be in a wedding 2 months postpartum.  Not only would I have to pump and dump, but honestly, I am a lot bigger than my “normal” size.  While I knew the day was not about me, I’m not gonna lie and say I didn’t Continue reading
