Ratio of finger foods to formula

20 Jan

Charlie is eating 3 meals a day, plus 2 snacks.  Obviously, he doesn’t take as much formula anymore.

I am so confused about how much food he actually takes in and how much formula he is supposed to have.  I have heard that 16 – 20 ounces is the magic number once your baby is eating 3 meals a day.  He does take less formula with every bottle, but I am unsure about when to give a bottle and which bottle feedings (if any) I should be weaning him from. I feel like I starved him yesterday and the day before I felt like I was trying to shove 8 ounce bottles down his throat.

I did find a great website that breaks all of this information down, yet I am still confused.  I also feel like everything is thrown off because of Charlie’s month of ear infection madness combined with some serious teething.  One day he will eat 3/4 of a banana, a piece of french toast and some soy yogurt for breakfast and the next he takes a bite of a banana and spits it out immediately.

It is just super hard to give up absolute knowledge of how much food he is ingesting.  It used to be if he got 4, 8 ounce bottles then I knew he was good for the day.  Now, we fill up all of his bottles to 8 ounces. Sometimes he will suck the whole thing down. Other times, he is barely interested in 2 ounces.  I guess I am just going to let him lead the way. He has been doing a great job regulating himself up until this point.
