Last year the Oscars were on March 7. We had an Oscar Party.
I was 35 weeks pregnant and insistent that the party would not be complete without replica Oscar sugar cookies. I found the recipe on Bakerella.
We also had a shmorgasbord of food.
My friend Tracy and I were both pregnant with boys, due 1 day apart: Tracy on April 9 and me on April 10.
2 days later – my water broke while we were at The Pump Station for a breast-feeding class. Charlie was born 4.5 weeks early on March 10, 2010.
One month later, on my due date. At this point, Tracy was still pregnant.
3 weeks later. Her son was born. We were due 1 day apart. They were born 6.5 weeks apart.
This year for the Oscars our plans are much different. Honestly, I didn’t even realize they were this weekend until Thursday night. Last year, I started prepping for them 2 weeks in advance.
Whereas last year I watched every movie nominated, this year I have only seen, “The King’s Speech” because we have it on dvd. I wanted to watch, “The Social Network” but our dvd player is suddenly on the fritz. So, this year I vote for, “The King’s Speech” in all categories. Even for the categories it wasn’t nominated.
Instead of a party with ballots where our guests can vote on who will win in each category, it is just me and Larry (a sleeping Charlie and a cuddly Sherman). We’ll make some dinner, maybe have some wine and will probably start prepping for bed around 8:30 or 9.
Sound boring? Maybe. But I honestly could not ask for a better night.

What an important Oscar party that was! You were about to bring forth new life, Tracy followed suit, and I got knocked up 6 weeks later.
Those were some magic Oscar cookies!
Our Oscar plans include DVRing so we can drop Austin off, order pizza, watch in betwixt swaddling and putting our little man down. I have seen a few of the nominated films (King’s Speech, True Grit, Black Swan, and The Social Network). I didn’t like anything. Ian is my movie of the year! LOVE YOU A MILLION!
I could not agree more. We used to host yearly Oscar parties. Steve even once carved an oscar out of a large salami. The past few years, sitting alone with Steve after Roan is asleep… that’s the best!
An Oscar out of a salami… sounds disgusting and deliciously amazing at the same time.
