A few weeks back Charlie had the worst diaper rash. It was so bad that nothing off the shelf was helping. This poor little guy’s rash got worse by the day. More than likely it started due to a stomach bug and a lot of poopy diapers. It was exacerbated by Huggies. For some reason, every time Charlie wears a Huggies brand diaper he gets a diaper rash. The rash got so bad that it started to develop bloody/pussy sores. TMI? It was so painful for him that he would cry every time he sat down, had a diaper change or was put in the bathtub. I called my doctor’s office and the nurse gave me a home remedy. She swore it would take away the rash within 48 hours.
Here’s what you need:
Liquid Maalox (It’s an antacid)
Corn Starch
Your favorite diaper cream (I used Triple Paste)
How to make it:
Mix the maalox and cornstarch together to form a paste like texture. Then add in an equal amount of diaper cream to the paste.
Her recommendation was to use wet paper towels instead of wipes. This immediately made a difference in how much he cried during a diaper change. The wipes have alcohol in them which can sting when they have a rash. The wet paper towel was actually quite soothing.
Over the course of 2 days we used the homemade cream and wet paper towels for every diaper change. Within 24 hours the sores had disappeared. Within 48 hours the rash was completely gone!
